2017: A Year in Review

2017 has come to an end and all of us at Nerd Louisville are thankful for the support that you have shown us. As you know, Nerd Louisville’s mission is to make Louisville, Kentucky the most awesome nerd city in the universe by fostering a sense of community, providing a hub to connect local nerds, and by promoting Louisville as a nerd destination. We also seek to educate, inspire, and empower local youth. In 2017, we made significant progress towards our mission, and we couldn’t have done that without you. We want to take a moment to reflect on the past year before we turn our gaze to a bigger and better 2018.

The one word that comes to mind when we think of 2017 is growth. Our operating budget tripled year-over-year, and we were able to undertake a wide array of projects that were beyond our wildest dreams. Below you will find just a few numbers that demonstrate the unbelievable growth we achieved!

  • $7,000 spent on our Next-Gen Nerds
  • 197% year-over-year operating budget increase
  • 202% increase in attendance for Nerdlouvia 2017
  • 81% increase in Facebook followers
  • Over 100 events
  • 1 Ultimate Nerd City

Next-Gen Nerds

Nerd Louisville spent more than $7,000 in 2017 on the Next-Gen Nerds of Louisville. This money went towards buying role-playing and board games for at-risk youth, helping local schools create and stock their Library Maker Spaces, sending a child to Club SciKidz Summer Camp, and sponsoring Kentucky Science Center trips for Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Kentuckiana.

We partnered with organizations like The Louisville Free Public Library, Jefferson County Public Schools, Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Kentuckiana, The Boys & Girls Club of Kentuckiana, and The De Paul School.

Nerdlouvia 2017

Nerdlouvia 2017 was held on November 18th and 19th,  2017 at the Tim Faulkner Gallery, and by all measures, the event was a huge success. We were able to raise over $5,000 after expenses to build up our war chest, fund our organization, and help our Next-Gen Nerds.

Nerdlouvia will be back in 2018, but for now, you can relive memories from 2017 by browsing through these great pictures!

Looking Ahead to 2018
