3/7/2016 Update: The store will still be opening on March 9th, but the grand opening celebration has been moved to April 2nd due to the St. Patty’s Day parade and closing of streets around the store.

If you’ve checked out our Definitive Guide to Gaming Stores, you know that Louisville has a thriving collection of nerdy stores and shops where you can find all sorts of comics, board games, roleplaying games, toys & collectibles, and tokens of pop culture. A new store, Heroes Comics & Gaming, is striding into the fray March 9th when they open, with a grand opening celebration on April 2nd. Heroes Comics & Gaming has the goal of becoming the ultimate comic and gaming store in Louisville, catering to all facets of nerd and pop culture.

“With the popularity of the movies and television shows today, there are more people than ever interested in pop culture,” said Steve Conley, co-owner. “Heroes will be the place to go no matter if you are a hardcore enthusiast or just have a casual interest.”

Heroes boasts more than 50,000 comics back issues and new comics and trades weekly. They also carry a wide selection of both popular and obscure board games, many of which will have demo copies so you can “try it before you buy it” free of charge. If that wasn’t eclectic enough, Heroes has war gaming, collectibles, toys, apparel, and trading card games, like Magic: The Gathering.

One of the aspects of the store Heroes owners are hoping will draw in the gamers is that the a section of the store’s 6,000 square feet is dedicated to a large play room where customers can reserve space for free and enjoy some of their favorite games.

“We wanted to create a space where people want to come and hang out,” said Kevin Stich, co-owner. “Somewhere everyone can gather and share their interests.”

For the grand opening, Steve and Kevin plan to have a wide variety of events, giveaways, food, and demos. One specific item as part of the giveaways is a CGC 7.5 copy of New Mutants 98. To enter, visit their Facebook page, “like”, share, and leave a comment. Heroes Comics & Gaming is located at 361 Baxter Ave and open 7 days a week. Specific hours and event schedules can be viewed at their website. Reservations for play areas can be made through the website also.
