Meet a Board Member:

Ashley Wunstel

Secretary, Nerd Louisville

  • What’s your day-walker job? (What do you do when you’re not helping Nerd Louisville take over the world?)
    • I work for a communications company where I get to pay bills professionally.
  • What made you interested in Nerd Louisville?
    • It was back in October of ’22 and I saw that there was a Girl’s Nerd Out session looking for GMs. I asked a friend at the time if she wanted to GM a game and I would come up with the pre-made characters and get a packet together for each pre-made. I was hooked ever since.
  • How did your nerd origin story begin? (What first got you into nerdy things?)
    • Plan and simple, I have always been a nerd. You can be a nerd about ANYTHING! But I got really heavy in World of Warcraft in my early 20’s. I started playing a year after Burning Crusade released and I’ve been a part of that community ever since. Also, I’m a roleplayer. Shout out to Moon Guard and Wyrmrest Accord! I then started my TTRPG path through a guild leader in WoW who game mastered my first ever online sessions of D&D.
  • If you had a superhero alias, what would it be and what’s your power?
    • Hmmmm, my power would be to make sure that all animals there were not already in great homes or places would have a place to go where they would be safe. But I’m an animal person. And I don’t think I’d hide it, so no alias for me.
  • What’s your all-time favorite tabletop RPG, and why?
    • Dragonbane hands down! If you have played, then you know why. If you haven’t then go find out.
  • You can game with any fictional character—who’s at your table and what are you playing?
    • Oh I am picking a FULL table! Game Master: Grog (tLoVM); Players: Me, Arthur Morgan (RDR2), Hazel (South of Midnight), Karlach (BG3), Violet Sorrengail (Fourth Wing). And we are playing the My Little Pony TTRPG.
  • What’s your go-to board game for a game night?
    • It’s not a ‘board game’ per say, but Cards Against Humanity is always a blast.
  • If you could live in any sci-fi or fantasy universe, where would you go?
    • I would love to be in a world with dragons. Most likely would be eaten, but dragons. How to Train Your Dragon…. yes please!
  • What’s a book, show, or movie that had the biggest impact on your nerd journey?
    • When I was growing up, Harry Potter was such a large part of the world then. But I could SEE that world so vividly.
  • What’s the best RPG session or campaign moment you’ve ever had?
    • Has to be the current campaign that I am having now. I get so many laughs session that I just can’t breathe. It’s great times. But there have been tears too. Mine. I’m the crier.
  • What’s your alignment? (And does it match your real-life personality?)
    • It -really- depends. Some days I’m neutral, others I’m chaotic. On the rare day I’m lawful.
    • What’s the nerdiest thing you’ve ever done? Attend conventions/ren faires.
  • If you could recommend one nerdy Louisville spot, what would it be?
    • I will ALWAYS recommend the Kentucky Ren Faire. Always. I love that place and the people. I can’t wait until June for it to open once more. Who wants to go be fairies together?
